Our commitment

Accessibility is a real product requirement for Age Dignity, not an afterthought. Many of the people we serve are navigating stress, fatigue, changing vision, reduced dexterity, or cognitive load. We are committed to an experience that is easy to see, read, understand, and operate.

Standard we aim for

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA as a minimum, and we deliberately go beyond it in places where doing so materially helps older adults — for example, larger default text and stronger contrast for reading content.

Built for older adults by default

You should not have to turn on a special mode to use Age Dignity comfortably. By default the site provides:

  • Larger, highly readable default text with comfortable line spacing
  • Strong colour contrast for reading content
  • Clear, underlined links within articles (not colour alone)
  • Large, well-separated buttons and touch targets
  • A clear heading structure and plain-language labels

Reading Options

Every page includes an "Aa Reading Options" control near the top of the site. It lets you:

  • Increase or decrease Text Size (A−, A, A+, A++)
  • Switch to High Contrast
  • Add More Spacing between lines and sections
  • Turn on Reading View to simplify article pages

Your choices are remembered on your device across pages and future visits. They are stored only in your browser — they are not tied to an account and are not used to profile you. You can select Reset to Default at any time.

Keyboard and screen readers

  • The whole public site can be used without a mouse, with a visible "skip to main content" link
  • Interactive elements show a strong, visible focus outline
  • We use semantic landmarks, headings, lists, labelled form fields, and clear error messages

Zoom and enlargement

The site is designed to stay usable when you enlarge text or zoom your browser (including at 200%), without important content disappearing or requiring sideways scrolling for ordinary reading.

Downloadable guides

Our printable guides are designed for readable type, strong contrast, generous spacing, and home printing (including black-and-white). We continue to review and improve them.

Known limitations

Age Dignity is an evolving platform. Some content and components are still being refined. A formal third-party accessibility audit or certification has not been performed for this release; we conduct our own automated and manual checks and document known exceptions. We do not claim to be perfectly or fully compliant.

Tell us about a barrier

If you encounter anything on Age Dignity that is hard to see, read, understand, or use, we genuinely want to know. Please use our [Contact page](/contact) to tell us, and we'll work to fix it.
